Nigerian singer and songwriter Wizkid won his third BET Award at the just ended BET Awards 2020 with his collaboration with Beyonce on the song Brown Skin Girl off the Lion King: The Gift album.
The 20th edition of the prestigious BET awards which celebrate achievements in entertainment and honours music, sports, television, and movies was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wizkid with Beyonce, her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and Saint Jhn bagged the BET HER Award with the beautifully composed Brown Skin Girl song which is a love letter to Black Women.
The lyrics of the song encourage young black girls to love their skin—particularly in a culture that often upholds lighter skin as the standard of beauty.
However, another Nigerian musician Burna boy won the Best International Act for the second year running. Rema who was also nominated in the Best New Act category lost to Zimbabwean Sha Sha.
The star studded broadcast featured powerful virtual performances from some of the biggest acts in music, including Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Nas, Questlove and Usher.
