Update On TUTAG Strike And Matters Arising On Examination

06/01/2020

The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) to hold a crank emergency congress today Monday 6th January 2020 at the Accra Technical University.

It is likely that TUTAG will declare a resumption of their suspended strike if by then the Association doesn’t get the assurance of paying their allowances.

TUTAG described the non-payment of their December public universities allowances as a refusal by the government to comply with the ruling by the National Labor Commission.

The NLC ruling on 28th of October held that the government should pay us all the allowances of our salaries for December…One paid in January, the other one paid in February and we agreed on that but when our salaries came, it came with the old good allowances so members were not happy that they had been short-changed.”

The three-week industrial strike action by TUTAG has affected the academic calendar of technical university compelling students break for the Christmas instead of a vacation.

Students of Technical Universities will resume writing the end of the first-semester examination but it is likely that, if TUTAG declares a resumption of their suspended strike, student have to wait a bit longer.
