The 2019/20 FA Cup third round ties have been announced with Liverpool drawn against Everton, while Manchester United take on Wolves for a place in the next round.
It’s the second time in three seasons the third round sees a Merseyside derby taking place with the previous meeting, a 2-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, decided by Virgil van Dijk on his Liverpool debut.
The forthcoming tie will be the 23rd occasion both sides have met in the FA Cup, two of those being in the final, with Liverpool presently winning 9-7 in the head-to-head.
Meanwhile, the Reds’ other big rivals Man Utd are set to be reacquainted with Wolves at Molineux, who dumped them out of last season’s competition to effectively begin a run of dismal form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Elsewhere, managerless Arsenal await the visit of Championship leaders Leeds United whilst holders Manchester City take on Port Vale and Chelsea welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho, who has one FA Cup success under his belt, sees his Tottenham Hotspur side make the trip up north to Middlesbrough now managed by former Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate.
The third round games are to take place on the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 January 2020.
