An Entertainment pundit with Edubiaseman FM in the Ashanti Region has reacted heavily to the silence portrayed by the Ghanaian media when Ghanaian-born Reggae Star, Rocky Dawuni was nominated for the 3rd time in the Grammy Awards.
According to Opoku Duah a.k.a OPK, a self-styled reggae enthusiast, King Rocky Dawuni is the only Ghanaian act with 3 grammy nominations to his credit but he is not widely known by the people of Ghana.
Speaking on a popular entertainment radio program, the reggae fanatic said Ghanaians do not know Rocky because the Ghanaian media has failed to talk about him and his achievements.
“The media has failed to project this King Rocky Dawuni to highest peak. He is the only Ghanaian Artiste who has earned three (3) Grammy Nomination but doesn’t seem to be known by many Ghanaians.”
He continued that the media is only trying to set an agenda for Sarkodie to win a grammy with his collaboration on the late Bob Marley’s ‘Stir it up‘ remix.
“The Ghanaian Media is of the view that Sarkodie making a remix of Legendary Bob Robert Nexta Marlay,s “Stir it up” will earn him a Grammy Nomination. It is time for Ghanaian Media to project these Artiste-Nuella Wiyaala, King Ayisoba, Okyeame Kwame, and King Rocky Dawuni.” OPK angrily stated.
“One thing I have noticed about the Ghanaian Media is their blantant refusal to promote Artiste from Northern part of Ghana, who have the potential to win Grammy for Ghana Music Industry. it is seemly clear that the above mentioned Artiste are the ones potraying the true Ghanaian Culture in their music craft and that is what Grammy is more interested in.” He continued.
