Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has returned to the club to coach their Juvenil A team for the forthcoming campaign.
The former Spain international made 539 first-team appearances for the Blaugrana before departing in the summer of 2014, months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Valdes has completed all of his relevant youth coaching qualification, and had been working as a coach at ED Moratalaz in the fifth tier of Spanish football, following his retirement as a professional.
Barcelona’s official website remembers him for “his touch of the ball, his ability in one against one situation and his reflexes” in making “him a world-class goalkeeper.”
As a La Masia youth team graduate himself, Valdes won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues in a 12-year career at the Camp Nou between 2002 and 2014.
After leaving Spain he played for Manchester United, Standard Liege and Middlesbrough, with the Barcelona website confirming his return on Friday.
