NIA to Commence Ghana-Card Registration in Ashanti Region

The National Identification Authority(NIA) has announced that registration for the Ghana card in Ashanti Region will commence on Wednesday, December 11 this year.


The exercise is expected to end on Wednesday, January 8 next year(2020) this according to Prof Kenneth Agyemang Atefah, Executive Secretary of NIA


In the Ashanti Region a projection (Target population) of 2,811,229 qualified Ghanaians are expected to be enrolled onto the NIA register.

According to the NIA Executive Secretary, a total number of 4,857,845 Ghanaians have so far been registered in the regions of Bono East, Bono, Ahafo, Volta, Oti, Uper East and West and Northern Savannah respectively.


Perhaps the Ashanti Region’s NIA mass registration exercise will take place at 833 centres in 47 operational Districts namely, Asokwa Municipal, Kumasi Metro( Bantama), Nwabiagya North and South, Sekyere East(Afigyaase) South( Agona), Sekeyere Kumawu,Sekyere Afram Plains(Drobonso), Sekeyere Central (Nsuta) and other Municipals/Districts of the region.


Participants are supposed to submit any of the following; voters ID, NHI Card, Driving License, a genuine birth certificate, in addition to a House Digital Address so as to get registered cor the card.
However, foreigners are not eligible to take part in the exercise. But a foreigner who have lived in the country for more than 90 days and wishes to register is eligible and will be required to provide personal details to NIA via Foreigner Identification and Management System at a cost of $120 USD.
On the other hand the Ghanaian citizen according to NIA is not supposed to pay any fee for the Ghana Card(free)


Consequently, the Ghana Card expires after 10 years and the Ghanaian citizen is supposed to pay a fee (undisclosed) for its renewal.
NIA says, it is well equipped, therefore adequate measures have been allocated to register all Ghanaians to get their Cards.


NIA will employ the laws of Ghana to deal strictly with persons who may unlawfully sneak to register for the Ghana Cards.


It will dwell into details and deal with staff who may be pointed out for taken money from participants and as well as maners of behaviours that contradicts its regulations.
