NAM 1 finally released from Police custody

Nana Appiah Mensah aka Nam 1 has been granted bail after his lawyers appealed to the court for a bail variation.


The embattled CEO of Menzgold was released on bail around 4pm after the court made changes to his bail requirements.


The court a little over a week ago imposed on NAM1 a GH¢ 1 billion bail condition with 5 sureties, three of whom must be justified.


Nana Appiah Mensah who is standing trial with two other persons has remained in Police custody for more than 10 days despite the bail due to his inability to meet the bail condition.
The situation forced NAM1’s lawyers to file for bail variations.


In the court ruling on Tuesday, 6 August 2019, the Judge Harriet Naa Akweley Quaye maintained the bail sum at a cost of GHS1 billion but varied the surety conditions.


She said the businessman is supposed to provide five sureties but none to be justified.
Nam1’s lawyers had made an appeal to the court to vary his bail condition by reducing the GHS1billion amount.
He was also to provide five sureties three of which were to be justified amd is also required to show himself to the police every Wednesday.


Despite his bail on 26 July 2019, he has remained in custody for failing to meet the conditions.
The case has been adjourned to 3 September 2019.
