Barcelona and Juventus initial plan to have their pre-season tour in South Africa have been shattered following the ravaging coronavirus which has now killed more than 24,000 across the globe.
A report cited in Daily Star stated that both Barca and Juve were billed to visit South Africa to join Mamelodi Sundowns’ 50th anniversary this summer.
There had been a scheduled competition comprising of four teams to participate in the event, but all that will no longer happen due to the rampaging epidemic.
Messi and Ronaldo would have been part of that tournament and it would be another chance for the world to see the two icons go head-to-head again and the beauty is that it happens on African soil.
According to Sundowns boss Yogesh Singh, the whole preparations for the tournament has now been put to a halt as the club is now concerned with the challenge at hand.
He confirmed: “Yes there were plans but right now all of that is on hold. Whatever plans we may have had are shelved now. Remember, there is no football, so we can’t even talk about that.
“We need to pause and forget about sports. Right now we are worried about the health and lives of people.”
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has made awesome donation of €1m to Hospital Clinic to help them in their research and the fight against deadly coronavirus.
People in all nations in the world have been in fear and serious tension since the outbreak of coronavirus considering how the disease is spreading and the number of deaths recorded.
