26/04/2019

The Kumasi Metropolitan Security Council has resolved to close all markets in the Ashanti regional capital by 6 p.m. every day.

The council will also to set up a security taskforce to monitor the various market facilities in the metropolis.

The decision was taken at a council meeting held on Thursday, 24 April 2019 following three market fires within three nights in the metropolis.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame, told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that among the decisions taken at the meeting was the resolve to intensify public education on fire safety.

Part of the Kumasi central market was gutted by fire on the Good Friday while Asafo market was also burnt on the following Saturday and Sunday.

The decision taken, according to Mr Okumah, will help curb recurrent fire outbreaks in the various markets in the metropolis.
