Liverpool defender Joel Matip pipped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal), Callum Wilson (Bournemouth), Ricardo Pereira (Leicester City) and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez to the award following an online vote.
Matip featured in all 3 of the Reds’ top-flight fixtures during September (Newcastle, Chelsea & Sheffield) and was instrumental in the Reds maintaining their 100% start.
Matip hasn’t featured since the start of October, sidelined with an injury sustained in the 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on September 28. He should be back to face rivals, Manchester United when the Premier League returns after the international break.
