I fired gunshot at polling centre – Hawa Koomson

Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson has admitted that she fired a warning shot at the ‘Step to Christ’ polling station.

“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn; my police escort had not started work yet. So, that is the modus operandi I engaged in his absence,” she told Accra-based Adom FM.

The Minister of Special Development Initiatives, however, said the shot was in self-defence after she felt threatened while touring registration centres.

The gun action at the polling centre sparked chaos with electoral commission officials running for cover and the registration being brought to an end.Four people were arrested following the chaos.

The Kasoa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Ampem Koosonu revealed his outfit acted immediately the incident happened and upon swift patrols in and around Kasoa environs arrested a pickup where they arrested this suspects.

Speaking on Starr Today, NDC communications officer Mr Delali Sewarkpor accused the Special Initiatives Minister of being behind the violence in the area.

According to him, several complaints to the Kasoa divisional police command has been ignored with no arrest made.

Mr. Sewakpor added that NPP thugs have on different occasions attacked members of the NDC and in some instance serious injuries have been inflicted on their party members with no action taken by the Police.
