Eastern Region: One-year-old boy Drowns in Abandoned Manhole

A one and a half year-old boy has drowned in an abandoned manhole filled with water at Akyem Osiem in the Eastern Region.


Father of the deceased boy, Siaw Frimpong, told Starr News, he was informed about the incident while at work Sunday around 4 pm.


“I was at work when I received a call about the incident so I rushed to the hospital only to see the lifeless body of my son”
According to the grief-stricken father, he had many times cautioned his front door neighbour about the danger the over decade-old abandoned manhole posed to Children in particular, therefore required to be covered or demolished but all fell on death ears.


“This manhole is just opposite my house at the backyard of my next-door neighbour for more than 10 years. I have been complaining how life-threatening it posses in the community and even reported to the town council people yet nothing was done about it.”


The Akyem Osiem Police is expected to release the body of the deceased child, Adom Frimpong to the family today November 26, 2019 for burial while investigation continue.
