Two more cases of the dreaded Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Ghana taking the total to 11 cases.
The two new cases were confirmed at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) on Thursday, March 19, 2020.
According to information provided by the Ghana Health Service, both victims are residents of Kumasi.
While the first case is a 59-year-old Ghanaian woman who just returned from the United Kingdom, the second is a 61-year-old Lebanese male trader.
The Ghanaian woman is said to have reported to a private hospital with a condition of fever (high temperature), general malaise, and runny nose.
Her condition was suspected to be Coronavirus and her samples taken to the KCCR later proved to be positive.
The Lebanese man, on the other hand, was unwell and visited a health facility with fever (high temperature) and cough. His sample also tested positive later.
The two are said to be isolation and are currently responding to treatment.
The confirmation of the two new cases comes just a few hours after President Nana Akufo-Addo announced two cases which took Ghana’s tally to nine.
As the president revealed at National Breakfast Meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2020, the eighth and ninth cases were confirmed in Accra on Wednesday night, March 18, 2020.
The information minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, provided further update on Twitter, stressing that the Ghana Health Services were managing the cases well.
