Ghana has imposed a travel ban on people from countries that have recorded 200 or more Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced the ban during a press briefing in Accra on Sunday, March 15, 2020.
Oppong Nkrumah, however, indicated that Ghanaian citizens or foreigners with valid Ghanaian resident permits were exempted from the ban but would have to undergo a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine upon their return to Ghana.
He further indicated the government was discouraging any form of travel to the country at the moment.
The ban which is expected to take effect from Tuesday, March 17, 2020, is part of the government’s measures contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.

As earlier reported by Vibeweek.com, Ghana confirmed its first two cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
But on Sunday, March 15, 2020, Ghana Health Service’s Public Health Director Dr Badu Sarkodie revealed that four new cases have been confirmed bringing the total number to six.
For all the cases recorded, the victims had recently travelled and returned from countries with high incidences of COVID-19.
