Africa’s greatest scorer in FIFA World Cup Asamoah Gyan gives tips about the art of goalscoring

Most football pundits and lovers of the game believe that the art of goal scoring is the most difficult task in football, but Asamoah Gyan is one of the few players who make this business simple.

Asamoah Gyan has revealed some techniques a striker should possess in order to be a clinical finisher

he 34-year-old Ghanaian striker has scored six goals in the FIFA World Cup, making him the greatest African scorer at the Munidial and he is also the all-time top scorer for his country, Ghana with 51 goals.

Despite having the notion that he is gifted with the art of goal scoring; he believes there are other factors that make him a standout striker.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Ghana’s Thomas Freeman Yeboah, Gyan said that aside being technically gifted with the art of goal scoring, regular practice with the ball on goal scoring techniques and having confidence in front of goal is very key in making a player good at scoring.

“Sometimes I felt I am gifted. I started scoring goals when I was a kid. You know everywhere I go I emerge as the top scorer during school days, during the Stay Cool days. In the First Division, I was the top scorer. That qualified Stay Cool. I was scoring goals during colts’ level, I scored 41 goals which the record hasn’t been broken for now. It got to a time, I felt like I am a clinical finisher.

“It is something that I normally train. Although people feel like I am gifted, I do work on it also. After training, I just take the balls for some finishing works. It became part of me.

“And also, qualities that I have, I always have confidence in myself. I can do anything at any time. The head works, I have speed, I can dribble, I can curl, I can shoot. I can create chances for myself, I can do a lot of movement that can create chances, so the possibility of me scoring is very very high. I have got a lot of things I can depend on in scoring goals. When I decide to chip the ball today and it doesn’t go well and people start bashing me, the next time I will chip it again till I get it right.

Asamoah Gyan represented Ghana in three different World Cup and seven Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In 2014, he captained the Black Stars during Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, where he scored his 6th goal and surpassed the legendary Roger Milla as the greatest African scorer at the Mundial.
