An Accra High court, in a U-turn, has cancelled the bail granted to Gregory Afoko, a suspect being tried for the murder of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East regional chairman, Adams Mahama, in 2015.
The suspect was granted bail earlier by the same court presided over by Justice George Buadi but he was kept in custody for more than 100 days only for the same court presided over by Justice Merley Wood to rescind the decision on Monday, 15 July 2019.
Several individuals and entities including Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Clement Apaak and IMANI President Franklin Cudjoe have questioned the continued detention of the suspect.
Chief State Attorney, Marina Appiah Opare, said in court that Mr Afoko will not make himself available for the trial if he was released.
Counsel for Mr Afoko challenged the submission of the Chief State Attorney. However, the judge ruled in favour of the Chief State Attorney and explained that the verdict was based on the facts available before her.
Mr Afoko’s trial was adjourned to Wednesday, 17 July 2019.
