A Ghanaian Liverpool fan, Hebert Danso Atiko, on Tuesday, 7 May 2019 died shortly after his team overturned a 0 – 3 deficit to beat Barcelona 4 – 0 in a semi-final match of the UEFA Champions league.
Mr Atiko, a final-year Engineering student of the Akwatia Technical School, collapsed while jubilating.
According to an eyewitness, other football enthusiasts poured water on him in their attempt to revive him but he remained unresponsive.
He was rushed to the Akwatia St. Dominic’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Principal of Akwatia Technical School, Mr Maxwell Owusu-Afriyie told Accra-based Starr FM that: “We will get the details and see if there was something the student did that suggests that his behaviour was in excess. On that, we can really talk to the students. We have a system in place where we talk to the students and their behaviour these days.”
