12-Year Old Rapper Corey J Faces Felony Charge For Allegedly Selling CDs At Mall

04/03/2019

Twelve-year-old rapper Corey J (also known as Lil C-Note) was arrested last October for allegedly selling CDs at a Georgia mall, sparking outrage across social media.

According to CBS 46, Corey — who once appeared on The Ellen Show — showed up at a Cobb County courthouse on Tuesday (February 26) to face charges of disorderly conduct with violence, criminal trespassing and an obstruction felony.

The boy’s attorney, Mawuli Davis, denied all charges.

“When he was there, he was not selling any CDs or doing anything that would have been prohibited he was there meeting other artists,” Davis said.

Corey J was in Georgia visiting family when he was arrested in the mall’s food court. Police say he was told twice to stop selling his mixtapes before he was ultimately arrested. His aunt filmed the entire interaction and the video quickly went viral.

I wanna thank Jackson Atlanta for this special piece they did. I would love for everyone to see this & understand what happen to me is big but what’s much bigger than that is it’s happing everyday & ppl are losing there lives to cops.. That should not be the way our young & youth should have to leave this earth, I was always raised to honor & respect the law for they are to protect & serve us. But unfortunately now today I think about avoiding the police scared of what they may do to me just because maybe lack of training or because maybe he or she is having a bad day today or because I’m stereotyped in this world and looked at as a threat when clearly I’m not any threat… I have started a movement called #EndJustUs which I just dropped a New Ep out called #EndJustUs #Please Go Get It!! Download it now #LinkInMyBio it’s strictly about #empowerment & never giving up on your #dreams Thanks to @officialboosieig he also stands fully behind my movement & I look to have plenty more with the voice to speak to step up & let’s make a change… I’m standing & speaking for all that unfortunately not here with us on this earth due to some type of #Injustice #Repost✊🏾💪🏾💯 #ThaYouthMatters✊🏾💪🏾 #coreyj #jjacksonliveinatlantashow #thejasminebrand

The story caught national attention with many people accusing the officer of treating Coreylike a “rag doll.” In a subsequent Instagram post, Corey and his family described the incident in detail.

“Tha fact that he snatched me & was trying to drag me around like I’m sum criminal that’s stealing, robbing or killing or sum is #Crazy,” the caption read. “But tha worst part is he trying to charging me with a #felony putting my hands on a #PoliceOfficer he say I tried to brake his fingers, he say I cussed him & he say I pushed him! Where in this video do it show I did anything but tell him I know my rights & then when he proceeded to try and drag me.

“my auntie stepped in & got in between us to get tha #Police off me, cause he was treating me like uh lil rag dog he can sling around…. All #Police is not bad, a lot are good friends of mines. But it’s some of you that do not deserve to be in a #PoliceUniform & this guy is clearly 1!!! Right is Right / Wrong is Wrong!! #CobbCounty #Police We must get to tha bottom of this… I’m just a kid out here standing for tha right & Motivating other kids in a positive way. Why try to destroy & bring me down!?!?”

Last month, Corey addressed the case with CBS 46 and explained he didn’t know he was doing anything wrong at the time.

Davis hopes to get all of the charges thrown out. If not, the case will go to trial.
