Police in India are enforcing the Coronavirus curfew by beating law breakers with sticks.

In a video sighted by Vibeweek.com, India’s Police were taking strict action against those stepping out of their houses amid the coronavirus threat.

Police personnels were seen deflating tires, wacking people who were out on the street amid the lockdown.

People were seen on the roads in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar. In Maharashtra’s Nagpur, police made people do squats on the road.

However, India’s Prime Minister, Narindra Modi has come out to apologize to all citizens, days after videos of those incidents hit social media. He labelled the happenings as harsh but “needed win” to help battle the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

“I apologize for taking these harsh steps that have caused difficulties in your lives, especially the poor people,” Modi said in his monthly address, broadcast by state radio. “I know some of you will be angry with me. But these tough measures were needed to win this battle.” The Prime Minister said.

The lockdown order, came into effect on Wednesday to keep India’s 1.3 billion people at home.

Indian health officials have confirmed 867 cases of the coronavirus, including 25 deaths.
