12/07/2020

Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, popularly known as Counselor Lutterodt, has rendered an apology to all Ghanaians, particularly rape victims, who feel offended by his recent statements concerning rape.

Mr. Lutterodt, in an Adom TV interview on Wednesday, July 8, made an emphatic statement which some people believe he is promoting a ”rape culture”.

He asserted that every rape victim enjoys the act, stressing some even attain orgasm during the illegal and evil sexual intercourse.

The Counselor made this remark based on what he says is a research he has conducted and also his couseling sessions with rape victims over the years.

His comments have however attracted strong anger from the public with celebrities like Nana Aba Anamoah, Juliet Ibrahim, Lydia Forson and Sister Deborah condemning what he said.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also tweeted; “Rape and violence against women are not something we should joke or toy with. We need to develop a more robust environment for protecting our wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers.”

The Gender Minister, Cynthia Morrison, in a statement also said there is no justification for rape and has appealed to the Ghana Psychology Council to take appropriate action against Mr Lutterodt.

The Minister further called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to condemn the Counselor’s statements.

Currently, there is a campaign for him to be banned from all TV and radio shows.

Speaking to host Akwasi Aboagye on Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Reveiw’, Mr. Lutterodt noted his statements have been taken out of context and misconstrued by interpreters.

He clarified he wasn’t denigrating rape or trying to offend the sensibilities of rape victims but rather making a statement of fact out of his researches and personal counseling moments with some rape victims.

He further blamed bloggers saying they didn’t publish his entire statements but rather cut portions that suit them for public attention.

Counselor George Lutterodt however apologized to Ghanaians who feel insulted by his statements.

“Every statement I’ve made which is in bad taste, forgive me. I apologize…I apologize for saying every rape victim enjoys the thing which has cause trouble. I didn’t speak well; Ghanaians should forgive me,” he pleaded.
