Ghana among top seeded in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers; balloting takes place today

Ghana will know the countries to play against when the balloting for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World’s Cup qualifiers take place later today.

Black Stars is one of the top seeded countries for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World’s Cup qualifying matches for African countries.

She was seeded alongside Cameroon, Algeria Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Mali and Congo Democratic Republic.

Prior to the balloting, FIFA had indicated that countries highly ranked in the December 2020 FIFA Coca Cola rankings were going to be the top seeded.

Pot 2 comprises of Burkina Faso, South Africa, Guinea, Uganda, Cape Verde, Gabon, Benin, Zambia, Congo, and Ivory Coast.

Pot 3 is made up of Madagascar, Mauritania, Libya, Mozambique, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Niger, Central African Republic, Namibia and Guinea-Bissau

Malawi, Angola, Togo, Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Liberia and Djibouti are in Pot 4.

Per the schedule, the group phase starts in March 2020 and ends in October 2021.

The 10 group winners will be drawn into five two-legged knockout ties to be played in November 2021.

The winners of the respective knockout matches qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
