Man Utd defender Eric Bailly stretchered off with injury in pre-season game against Tottenham

Injury plagued Manchester United defender Eric Bailly appeared to have suffer another major setback after he was stretchered off during Thursday’s pre-season friendly against Tottenham. The 25-year-old was restricted to just 18 appearances in all competitions last season and has suffered serious ankle and knee injuries since his move to Old Trafford three years ago.

Bailly was introduced at half-time, replacing Chris Smalling, but lasted little over 10 minutes. The Ivory Coast international appeared to twist his knee while attempting to prevent Heung-Min Son from taking a shot at goal. After receiving treatment from United physio Richard Merron, Bailly managed to get back to his feet before reluctantly calling for the stretcher.

Axel Tuanzebe, who was singled out for praise by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Saturdy’s win over Inter, took the place of the stricken Bailly, whose Old Trafford future was already in serious doubt. Solskjaer is determined to add Leicester City’s Harry Maguire to the centre of his defence and vibeweek.com understands the potential arrival of the England international was already playing on Bailly’s mind.
