Some squatters at Dagomba Line, a slum in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region engaged in a bloody fight with some personnel from the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, 9 July 2019.

Several people sustained various degrees of injuries during the melee.

The incident happened when a landowner of the area secured a court order to demolish structures which serves as abode to the squatters.

Some aggrieved squatters, however, attacked the police officers who were deployed to the area to supervise the demolition exercise with sticks. Other hurled stones and other missiles at the law enforcement officers.

In the heat of the attack, the police retreated and called for reinforcement. The aggrieved youth set some structures in the area ablaze and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene to quench the fire.

Several of the angry youth who were engaged in the attacks have also been arrested and placed in police custody.
